Milton Keynes Model of Quality Improvement

Page history last edited by Anne Gray 10 years ago

This model was created by HEFT Consulting (Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust) as part of a series of workshops to provide a practical approach to service improvement developed with  building on knowledge and experience gained through Quality:MK.

The model has 4 stages

MK Improvement Model

The model is based on the PDCA cycle - plan, do, check, adjust with the underpinning theory of managing change. It  is similar to the LEAN principles of understanding issues, engaging people, coming up with solutions and eliminating waste.

The overarching philosophy is of improving quality by looking at issues from the 3 perspectives of  patient , staff and value - PSV.

A tailored training programme has been prepared by HeFT for primary care professionals, both clinical and managerial, on quality improvement tools and techniques with the goal of ensuring that participants will have the ability and confidence to be apply the tools and techniques after training has been completed. Training on measurement and demonstrating improvement is key to this.

The training has been developed as a facilitated programme and a snapshot of the training is available here, providing a continuing resource and aide memoire to particpants.

  • Templates  have been developed to support the model and the training programme.
  • More resources can be found in the recommended reading list.
